Trekking up Uhuru Peak has many special moments, one though would not expect them on day one on the trek.
If it is the first time in Kilimanjaro you will be surprised at the human traffic on this mountain, you will wonder if you will have that unique moment with the mountain, you will ask if the trail will be adequate for all? maybe the camps are too noisy?
Soon after you are done with the paperwork at the gate, a beautiful rainforest welcomes you on the trail. on this your first day, its a steady incline of about 1200m to Machame Hut of nothing but beautiful giant trees covered in moss entangled undergrowth of giant fern
Dangling Snails
The almost undisturbed ecosystem in Machame allows all life to thrive. Spider webs on the trail and the snails dangling on them was a beautiful experience..
Water Cascade
Almost Machame hut just as the vegetation start to change from the rain forest and replaced by giant heather on the right of the trail is this beautiful cascade.. walk down 10 meters and you are right at the base.
Its a place to take a moment and take all in as you end you first day in the mountain even per take of the spring.
Its almost dark when we get to Machame hut.. we ease into the tents .. we sponge with hot basin water and have a delicious mountain dinner.. we are ready for tomorrow..
the forest has done its part .. its now us to finish the journey.
New Year’s Trek
We return to this trail starting the 27th December 2018- 2nd January 2019.
