Arabuko Sokoke is the home to many trees, elephants, buffalo’s and the charming elephant shrew among other wildlife, which we may well see on this trail!
Join us on an adventure through this UNESCO world heritage site for a 23 km trek over sandy and red soil paths. This trail leads you through three different types of forest; which we will evidently see changing after every 8 kms or so. We will be guided through mixed forest, woodland and Cynometra thicket.
Highlights include a scenic swamp area at the edge of the forest reserve where elephants come to drink and a short view of both the forest and ridges inland as well as the coastline. Otherwise we will very much be surrounded by trees, no scenic views or big hills here, but the sandy trek and number of kms are great for those of us preparing for bigger hikes.
Along the way our guide can tell you more about the many birds, trees and other inhabitants of the forest. We walk through different areas, sometimes in the shade, other times exposed to the sun. Bring plenty of water for this one!
