Kihuri Forest Bathing Magic | Day Hike

Kihuri Forest Bathing Magic | Day Hike

Happy New Year!
We begin the year the best way we know how—by stepping back into nature.

On January 10th, 2026, join us for Kihuri Forest Bathing Magic, a refreshing day hike through the lush Kihuri Forest, located just 15km from Othaya town. This trail is about slowing down, reconnecting, and setting the tone for a year lived more intentionally—outside.

The Trail Experience

Our hike starts at the Othaya Water Treatment Plant near Kihuri Centre. On a clear morning, the first light reveals beautiful views of Mount Kenya, welcoming us gently into the day.

The trail begins on a wide forest path leading to the Gikira River inlet, opening into a rich landscape of tall indigenous trees, thick undergrowth, and cool forest air. As we move deeper under the canopy, the noise of the world fades, replaced by birdsong, flowing water, and the quiet rhythm of walking.

Along the way, we catch sweeping views of the tea valleys below, cross the river a few times, and follow gentle cattle trails as the path climbs toward the Mount Kinangop viewpoint. This is forest bathing in its truest sense—unhurried, immersive, and grounding.

Water, Views & Forest Magic

After a relaxed break at the viewpoint, we descend toward the heart of the forest, where mossy water cascades flow through the valley—one of the highlights of this hike and the soul of Kihuri Forest Bathing Magic.

We exit the forest through the Nyayo tea zone, walking between endless green fields before looping back to our starting point.
