Kihuri Forest Bathing Magic.
Happy New Year! We kick off the adventure-filled year with a trail that beckons us back to nature, a journey of self-discovery and a promise to keep our resolutions alive. Join us on January 4th 2025, for an exhilarating hike through the enchanting Kihuri Forest, just 15km off Othaya town. As we set foot on this mesmerizing trail, we’re not just exploring the outdoors; we’re embarking on a transformative experience, a return to the wild that ignites the spirit of the wanderer within us.
Our exploration begins at the Othaya Water Treatment plant, near Kihuri center, where the beauty of Mt. Kenya unfolds before us, catching the first rays of the morning sun on a clear day. The Kihuri Forest trail, starts with a wide path leading to the Gikira river inlet point, serves as the gateway to a forest adventure filled with towering trees, vibrant undergrowths, and the serenity that only nature can provide. Let the canopy pathways guide us, offering breathtaking views of Mt. Kinangop and the moss-decorated water cascades that weave through the valley, leaving us in awe of the wonders we’ve been missing.
As we navigate the footpath, winding through giant trees and lush foliage, we find ourselves immersed in the beauty of the tea valleys below. The trail invites us to cross the river, following cattle trails along its banks, and then crossing once more as we ascend towards the Mt. Kinangop viewpoint. Kihuri Forest is not just a hike; it’s a dialogue with nature, a chance to connect with the surroundings and set the tone for a year of adventures and self-reflection.
After a well-deserved rest at the Mt. Kinangop viewpoint, our journey continues downward, leading us to the magical water cascades that epitomize the essence of Kihuri Forest Bathing Magic. Exiting the forest, we traverse the Nyayo tea zones, marveling at the sprawling beauty of the landscape, before circling back to our starting point.
This first hike of the year covers a distance of 16km and will take approximately 5-6 hours. The highest elevation we’ll reach is 2400m ASL, promising panoramic views and a sense of accomplishment. So, lace up your hiking boots, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and join us as we venture into the heart of Kihuri Forest—because the best way to predict the future is to create it, step by step, on the trails of adventure. See you there!
