Mt. Kasigau is located in Taita-Taveta County and is part of the Eastern Arc Mountains. It is sandwiched between Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Park. Kasigau rises about 1600m above the Taru Desert, with savannah plains below giving way to its high montane forest.
On day 1 we will arrive around lunchtime, set up camp and eat, followed by a walk to Gae Rock and Mshiri Dam. This warm up will give us a chance to get to know each other and get ready for the climb on day 2. There will be time to freshen up after our walk as we wait for dinner and a campfire. Feel free to bring cards/ board games for the evening.
On day 2 we wake up early, pack up camp and have an early breakfast and pack our lunch for the summit, heading up the hill at 7am.
The climb offers amazing views, a varied landscape and is quite steep. The return trip will take about 7 hours and it is usually hot during the day. The forest near the top will provide shade (and humidity!) and sometimes mist. Lunch at the top is the best reward after the challenging climb! We suggest to carry 3l of drinking water for this 15km trek.
Hikemaniak wishes to host you for a weekend in this magical place for one night and two days.
