Shompole Hike N Camp at the border of Kenya and Tanzania is a camp full of splendour. We explore deep in the Rift Valley in the plains of Maasailand past Lake Magadi is a gem with Lake Natron in the foreground.
Shompole Hill rising from the floor of the Rift to an altitude of 950m asl by the shores of Lake Natron. You will explore with a hike up the Noonkoile View Point with excellent views of Lake Natron below and Mount Lengai in Tanzania.
Day 1
The road trip to Shompole is exciting with stopovers at Magadi to take in the pink beauty. Later drive along the shore of the lake towards Oloika. Early afternoon will mark your arrival at camp. Soon after settling in camp your are free to take a walk along river Ewaso Ngiro. For those who wish to indulge more into the landscape a swim under the Shompole sun is just perfect.
Later in the evening, we head back to camp for an evening around the bonfire as we enjoy dinner.
Day 2:
Early morning after some light breakfast we start our hike up Shompole hill from the camp at the base. Shompole Hike N Camp trail wades through the acacia dotted ridges. In addition different view points along the trail reveal even more beauty of the Rift with every step. The Nguruman Escarpment, Loita Hills, Lake Magadi, Lake Natron and Mount Lengai.
The trail up to the peak takes about 3.5 hours up and 1.5 hours down.
