Mt Kenya Point Peter

Let’s go and experience the mountain differently, we seek to reach the summits but we also commit to being aware of every moment on the way… we call it connection with self and nature, a beautiful journey up this snow-capped mountain of East Africa right at the Equator. Mt. Kenya is one of the places every human should visit at least once in a lifetime. It offers a wholesome experience of fun, connection and self-discovery; so come with us and create your memories…and live to tell your mountain story! Below is a brief description of the trail…

Day 1: Sirimon Gate (2650m ASl) to Old Moses Camp (3300Asl)

Meet at 7.00am outside the International life House (or other agreed location in Nairobi) to board our ride to Nanyuki, the drive will take about 3 hours. At Nanyuki an early lunch will be waiting, we enjoy as we chat with our contact team at the base of the mountain. After lunch, we drive to Sirimon Gate where soon after clearing with KWS we shall start our epic journey up Lenana Point. The trek up to the first camp is on tarmac for 9km and this will take about 3 hours through the rain forest and the Bamboo zone. On good afternoon sightings of waterbucks and elephants are likely. Later in the evening dinner is served. At night the clearance at the camp also allows for star gazing. A good camera is recommended to capture these moments.

Day 2: Old Moses Camp (3300m Asl) to Shiptons Camp (4200m ASl)

After breakfast we start our day through moorland, through the Likki Valley crossing the Likki River and going up to the View Point. It is the gate to Mackinders Valley and Mount Kenya most impressive with perfect views of the high peaks on a clear day. We take a break here to witness this magic as we take a moment to refuel. Later we continue up the caves and soon enter the Lobelia zone. The 7km Mackinders Valley trail delivers into Shipton Camp covering a total of 14km for the day taking about 7hours. At camp we have some tea and snacks as we relax and get good rest as we prepare for our summit bid the following morning.

Day 3: Shiptons Camp to Point Peter

Early morning wakeup call as we head out to point Peter. We shall have an early snack and tea to start our day at the less trekked peak, Point Peter. We shall then head back to Shipton basecamp for a proper breakfast and a restful day as we prepare to summit Lenana peak.

Day 4: Shiptons Camp (4200m ASl) to Point Lenana (4985m Asl) and down Old Moses Camp

This will be an early morning affair with a wakeup call at 3.00am. We shall enjoy early snack and tea to start the day. Our summit bid will start at 3.30 am aiming to be at Lenana Peak at 6.30am to witness a magical sunrise from the 3rd Highest Point in Mount Kenya. Soon after taking all the magic we head down to Shipton’s Camp 4km down at 4300m Asl. We shall have a stop there for a proper breakfast soon after we shall proceed down to Old Moses Camp. On our way down even better views of the peaks and excellent views of main peaks. After lunch we head back to Nairobi.
