The numerous massive rocks which form part of this magical hill are a natural lure to the spirit of an adventurer.
It is accessed from the Ukia junction on the Machakos- Wote road. 12 kilometers into a rough road is where the trail starts. The base of the hill is introduced to us by a 2km walk through the local fruit farms .
The trail follows cattle routes uphill characterized by thick bushes and indigenous young pine trees.
Several view points makes this place a hiker’s paradise which give us 360 degrees view of the surrounding Soysambu hills to the far west and Mbooni Hills to the East.
The vegetation there is heavenly to watch and admire. Colombus monkeys jumping from a tree to another is absolutely eye catching
Up the hill is a deserted campsite with and ancient building. The calmness and the chirping of birds make this an ideal campsite. For those who would wish to camp, then this is it!
13 km into the hike we are at the summit which is a major highlight of the trail. Everyone would fancy a moment to sit on top of the Nzaui rock just to absorb the life enriching peace it has to offer.
This introduces us to a 6km steep descent to the other side of the hill. The descent is rocky and needs concentration on a high.
The trail is 19km long and rated moderately difficult taking 7-8 hrs to complete. Distance from Nairobi 140 km.
