Brief Itinerary
Day 1 – Ngao Ngao
We set up camp at Dawida Community Center around lunchtime. After lunch and settling into camp we head up to the three peaks of Ngao Ngao forest. The forest has a rich birdlife and a variety of indigenous trees. She is also home to Taita Hills’ mother tree, she is quite a site! The 2nd highest point in the Taita Hills, the massive rocks are a must visit and an afternoon excursion up will reward us with views of Vuria, Kasigau and on a clear day Mt. Kilimanjaro. We head back to camp later in the evening and we take our dinner, enjoy a campfire and prepare for the next day.
Day 2 – Yale
In the morning after breakfast, we head out for the day. Expect to be walking 7-8h on this day. Our destination is an iconic viewpoint in the Coastal region with a stunning 360° view; Yale. Despite not being the highest point, this is for sure a magical place with another rich forest during our push to the top. The Taita plains below are breathtaking. We shall descend from the rocks partly the same way down but will meander back to camp through the same valley, but using a different route.
The evening will be for relaxing, freshening up (bucket showers available!), a warm meal, stories around the campfire and some games.
Day 3 – Wesu Rock
For our last day we wake up early to do a 4h loop to Wesu Rock and back. Photographers and bird watchers will have another joyful morning of being spoiled for choice in where to look and what to capture. The massive rock formation called Wesu is a surreal and beautiful place with more panoramic views!
We finish our trip with lunch and will head back to Kilifi to arrive in the evening (exact time will depend on our pace).
